What a full bathroom installation includes

A full bathroom installation takes the room back to bare walls and floors and rebuilds it. It suits bathrooms where the suite, tiles and pipework are all tired, or where you want to change the layout as part of a wider bathroom renovation.

  • A free home design visit to measure up and agree the layout
  • Strip-out and removal of the old suite, tiles and flooring
  • First-fix plumbing, including moving pipes and wastes where the layout changes
  • Electrical work such as an extractor fan, lighting or a shaver socket, done by a qualified electrician
  • Preparing walls and floors, then tiling or wall panels
  • Fitting the bath or shower, basin, toilet, vanity units, taps and towel rail
  • Final connections, sealing, testing and a clean before we hand back the room

How a bathroom installation runs

Most bathroom installations follow the same order of work:

  1. Strip-out. The old suite, tiles and flooring come out and are taken away.
  2. First fix. Pipes, wastes and cables are run to their new positions while the walls are open.
  3. Walls and floors. Boards go up, floors are levelled and shower areas are waterproofed.
  4. Tiling. Walls and floors are tiled and grouted.
  5. Second fix. The suite, taps, furniture and fixtures go in and are connected.
  6. Finishing. Sealing, testing and a final clean.

Most full bathroom fits take between one and two weeks. A like-for-like swap is at the quicker end. Moving the toilet, building a wet room or tiling every wall adds time. Your quote comes with a start date and a plan for the work, so you know which days you'll be without a bathroom.

Choosing your suite

You can choose the bath, shower, basin, toilet, taps and vanity units with us at the design visit, and we'll order everything. Plenty of homeowners like to visit a bathroom showroom first to see suites and tiles in person. Bring photos or product codes and we'll plan the room around them. If you've already bought a suite, we can fit it instead: see fitting only.

Choosing the right bathroom installer in Doncaster

Whoever you hire, check these before you sign:

  • They visit and measure up before giving a price, rather than quoting over the phone
  • The written quote lists what's included: strip-out, waste removal, plumbing and electrical work, walls and floors, tiling and making good
  • They're fully insured, and any workmanship guarantee is in writing
  • Gas work is done by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and electrical work in the bathroom by a registered electrician who can certify it under Part P
  • They give you a start date and tell you how long you'll be without a bathroom

Do you need planning permission?

Refitting a bathroom inside your home doesn't usually need planning permission. The Building Regulations do apply to some of the work, such as new drainage, ventilation and electrical work, and a listed building needs consent before changes are made. We'll tell you at the design visit if anything in your bathroom project needs approval.

Bathroom installation: frequently asked questions

Do you take the old bathroom away?

Yes. Stripping out and removing the old suite, tiles and waste is part of a full installation.

Can I use the bathroom while the work is going on?

For most of the job, no. If it is your only toilet, tell us at the design visit and we will plan the work around it as far as we can.

Can you move the toilet or change the layout?

Usually, yes. Moving a toilet depends on where the soil pipe can run, so we check that at the design visit before we give you a price.

How long does a bathroom installation take?

Most full bathroom fits take between one and two weeks. Your quote includes the start date and how long the work will take.
